SYBIL SHEARER FELLOW: AYAKO KATO
Ayako Kato is a kinetic philosopher, poet, contemporary choreographer, dancer and Ragdale Alum. During her recent Sybil Shearer Fellowship residency at Ragdale, Kato dedicated her time to crafting “ETHOS IV: Degrowth/Cycle/Rebirth,” an evening-length piece intended to shift focus from human-centered, capitalistic ways to a more symbiotic, nature-centered way of life.
See Ayako Kato perform at the Dance Center on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20, 2024, as a part of its Chicago Artist Spotlight Festival commemorating the Dance Center’s 50th Season.

EIGHT ARTISTS CARVE THE HISTORIC ELM TREE AT RAGDALE
Renowned sculptor, visual artist and Ragdale Trustee, Margot McMahon and eight other artists bring nature to life through their art. During their 18-day Artist Carving Residency from May 20th through June 7th, the artists will creatively sculpt Ragdale’s historic Elm, which succumbed to Dutch Elm disease in 2020, merging their profound artistic visions with the beauty of the massive trunk of this beloved tree. There will be opportunities for the public to come to watch the carving sessions and for artists’ talkbacks. Look for more information on these events in your email sometime soon.

JOIN THE EXPLORATION OF HUMANITIES, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI), AND SOCIAL JUSTICE WITH RAGDALE AND LAKE FOREST COLLEGE
Due to a very generous grant from the Mellon Foundation, Ragdale has been asked to work in collaboration with Lake Forest College and is excited to announce a critical opportunity for artists across all disciplines. Ragdale invites applications for its thematic Residency, “HUMAN: Humanities Understanding of the Machine-Assisted Nexus.” This three-year initiative is designed to delve deep into the crossroads of the humanities, artificial intelligence (AI), and social justice. We will seek proposals from artists of all disciplines detailing how becoming a HUMAN Resident will bolster their exploration at this intersection. For more information and to see the press release here.
